Justice & Peace  is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build and empower local communities of change makers who work together for just, sustainable and welcoming societies. They defend and promote respect for human rights and social justice, worldwide and in the Netherlands.

I photographed two kinds of events under one of their main initiatives, Shelter Cities–a global movement of safe spaces for human rights defenders at risk: One took place during the Capacity Building for Human Rights Defenders Week, where they engage with topics like digital security, storytelling, and wellbeing, among others. The second took place at Gemeente Amstelveen, at a council meeting that officially launched the city as a new Shelter City coordinated by Lawyers for Lawyers.
